Today we’re going to take a look at the history of barbing – an ancient practice that has been around for centuries! Barbing is the practice of cutting and styling hair, and it has a long history that dates back to ancient Egypt. The first barbering services were performed by Egyptians in 5000 B.C. with instruments they had made from oyster shells or sharpened flint. In ancient Egyptian culture, barbers were highly respected individuals. Priests and men of medicine are the earliest recorded examples of barbers – they would use their skills to shave off beards as part of religious ceremonies or medical treatments. In Ancient Greece, barbershops became popular gathering places for men to discuss politics and philosophy while getting their hair cut or shaved.
